There were 11 bulls forward for the Spring Sale on 4th May as well as two females and 12 commercials.

Seawell Garfield took the “prize bull” rosette in the bull parade prior to the sale and was top price in the sale ring at 4,200gns. This June 2011-born Seawell Extra son is out of the imported dam Urne from breeder Duval Gerard. Seawell Extra is a home bred by Union son from the Dongers of Seawell Grounds, Foxley, Northants and is out of a heifer bought from the Bressons. Extra was retained as a stock bull for his exceptional length and size. He is a long, clean bull. Heifers are calving very easy to him.

Cleuchhead Boris from Rob and Kath Livesey sired by Drumlegagh Brandon made 4,000gns. This promising, tidy young animal went to the Poldean herd at Moffatt.

Seawell General, a Trafalgar son out of Seawell Tribute made 3,800gns and was bought by Steven White from West Yorkshire. Trafalgar is noted for producing tremendous females with plenty of milk and excellant mothering qualities. They have size and excellent temperaments with good growth rates.

The harsh weather conditions have taken its toll on the pocket of farmers this spring.

Averages: Bulls £4200, yearling commercial heifer stirks £610, two year old bulling heifers £820.
